Creating PowerPoint Shows for Conversion to Video

If have, or would like to create the PowerPoint slides used for videos, no problem. Communication between us will be the important issue. Here are some tips that can save time (and money).

  • Create only the slides that you want to have in the video. We will discuss the show by slide number. Don't use additional slides for graphics that are to appear on an earlier slide.
  • If you want a photo or other graphic to change on a slide, mark this in the PPT Notes section and send the graphic as a separate file. TIFF, WPG, and JPEG formats are fine. A standard notation is to use the slide number and graphic number for the file name. Slide 6 Graphic 2 would be "SL6G2."
  • If you are comfortable with doing animations of bullet points and graphics, just mark in the PPT Notes section where the animation should occur during the narration. I typically use an asterisk ("*") but any notation that communicates clearly is fine. Communications that are not part of the narration are typically enclosed in brackets (e.g., "When in the course [ * Fade out Graphic SL5G2 and fade in Graphic SL5G3] of human events . . . ."])
  • If you prefer to create a script document instead of using the PPT Notes section, this also works well. Just use the same notation for graphics and animations in the script. The text can be cut from the script and pasted into PPT notes sections if you want to show captions for the video.

If you want to provide the narration for the video, we have suggestions for that as well.
